The simplest, wisest, but often hardest thing to do when trouble comes knocking is to find a place inside yourself where there is still a spark of joy, of peace, of safety. This can sound maddeningly elusive in times of difficulty, which is important to acknowledge. However just as importantly, this doesn’t take away from the fact that it is nonetheless possible to find some small crevice of joy, a strand of calm, a raft of safety- however flimsy it seems- that we can cling to when we’re awash in a storm of trouble.
We all have an inner sanctuary within, regardless of what we have experienced, or are in the midst of experiencing. It may be buried beneath layers of hurt, anger, grief and pain, but it is discoverable. It takes conscious intentional practice, effort and desire to uncover- but we can find it. Indeed, we must.
Do you know how to access your own inner sanctuary? It’s a lifetime’s practice, but one of the most important and fruitful things we could ever commit to accessing. In a world of dizzying change and insecurity, having a stable center to return to within yourself, can make all the difference. Make it a priority to find it, connect to it, and nurture it daily. And in doing so, you’ll be infinitely better equipped to deal with the punches life will invariably throw at us all.
